Teachers' Day 2008 - A Dedication

Like it used to be on 5th of September every year, here, we the students of Don Bosco Imphal, wish "Our Teachers" a very Happy Teacher's Day. Thank You Dear Ojas.

Mention can be made of many teachers, who are still teaching, who are retired, who are still alive and who have passed away. But their contribution cannot be measured by me or by one of us and express in few words here. The impact - they made is huge, and it's to a huge number of students, in a huge amount of time. 50+ years of DBS serving the students of Manipur is a big chapter in the history of Manipur itself.

I will not list out the names of all the great teachers I personally have come across or have heard about. Let me just take the name of just one who remains an unsung hero.

Teachers of Don Bosco High School, Imphal (circa 1986)

He was a brother in DBS when Tamo Raj Vedantam(1978 matric) was in school. When we were kids in 1986-87, he was a father then, he was the Rector of DBS.

Tonight, I am typing this very mail in a computer. "Computer?? What is that??" - That's what we and everyone used to ask in mid 1980's in Manipur. The year was 1987, we were in class 4, and we were introduced to 'computers' - portable TV like monitors, big CPU boxes with 386 / 486 processors, LOGO, ICS - Informatics Computer Systems(the name of the publisher of our computer books from Delhi)... We were the proud Bosconians in Manipur. DBS Imphal was the first school, or first Don Bosco School in the whole of North East to have introduced computers in school.

He was the man behind getting of computers in our school, behind getting of teachers from Delhi, sending our own DBS teachers to MU to get trained. Yes, he was far sighted and was ahead of his times.

Came 2002 - and he was sent back to DBS Imphal with a mission. The mission was: 'to close down a legendary school called Don Bosco, Imphal', because the school could not withstand the huge demands. Yes, he was sent to do that. But know what he did? He resurrected DBS Imphal back to life like a 'Phoenix Rising'; he made it come back almost near to it's lost glory.

The man behind all these is FR MC GEORGE !!

We don't and won't forget you father. DBS and Manipur is very much indebted to you. Thank You Father.

Stay healthy, stay happy, keep smiling...
